Minden
The unincorporated town of Minden, NV, serves as the seat of Douglas County, south of Carson City along US 395 at the start of SR 88. Minden is home to a population of just over 3,000 people, across a land area of 4.3 square miles adjacent to the town of Gardnerville.
Minden was founded in 1906 by Heinrich Friedrich Dangberg Jr., who named it after a town in Germany near his father’s birthplace. The post office opened that same year, and many of Minden’s first settlers were German. Today, Minden is part of a region considered one of the top gliding spots in the world, where sailplanes have made flights of nearly 1000 miles. The historic Minden Inn, built between 1912 and 1916, has been frequented by celebrities and used for movie filming.
